Delivery principle

Introduction

When working with ZorgDomein, documents are created. These documents are made available to users in accordance with the Availability Principle. ZorgDomein can also deliver documents to other information systems and applies the Delivery Principle to do so. This reference document explains what the Delivery Principle entails.

Supplement to the availability principle

As a supplement to the Availability Principle, ZorgDomein aims to enable both the sender and recipient to keep their own information system (the “XIS”) complete and up to date as a source system. For this reason, it is possible to configure in ZorgDomein where and in what manner (the “destination”) documents can be digitally offered to the XIS. ZorgDomein applies the Delivery Principle for this purpose.

Basic rules

The Delivery Principle consists of a number of basic rules that govern how documents are delivered:

  • ZorgDomein ensures that a document is offered to the configured destination(s) of the sender and/or recipient.
  • Documents are only delivered over a secured connection.
  • ZorgDomein sends the recipient a notification about the availability of a document, provided the recipient has explicitly indicated they wish to receive such notifications and has configured a destination for this purpose.
  • ZorgDomein has a best-effort obligation to deliver notifications and documents within a timeframe appropriate to the process of which the document is a part. ZorgDomein will attempt to re-deliver documents and notifications that fail to be delivered to the configured destination. In the event of repeated delivery failure, ZorgDomein will contact the recipient to work towards a successful delivery.
  • All destinations for an organisation are created and maintained by ZorgDomein. The only exception to this is the address for EDIFACT messages, which can optionally be entered by the referrer themselves to ensure correct feedback to the source system.
  • The organisation can use these destinations to specify, per document type, where a document should be delivered and/or where notification of the document’s availability should be sent.

Note: ZorgDomein makes every effort to establish a connection with all XIS systems used by our users. An overview of all connected XIS systems can be found on our website. Digitally offering documents to an XIS is only possible when such a connection exists.

Destinations

A destination is a technical configuration that specifies where and how documents can be digitally delivered to an XIS.

  • Where: for example an email address, an IP address with port number, or a URL.
  • How: for example email with PDF attachment, HL7v2, EDIFACT, SMS, etc.
